Ann and Renee's thirteen songs

Thursday, March 20, 2008 ·

Ann and I like many of the same songs, but if we listed those what a boring Thursday Thirteen it would be. So, here is our eclectic list of songs in our different playlists.
(Mind are in italic. Ann's are in bold.)

1. Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo Ole'
Frank and I love this song. I swear every time I hear it I get chills. Usually when I'm tinkering around on the computer I'm listing to songs via YouTube and this song tops the list of my daily listens.

2. Somebody Like You--Pop Evil (www.popevil.com)
The bass guitarist of this band is a family friend. I remember seeing little Tony doing the splits in karate class. Now he's all grown up, pierced, tattooed and playing in a rock band! Gotta love that :) Plus, I love the way this song sounds, and the lyrics. *sigh*

3. I Want to Hold Your Hand by T.V. Carpio
This is from Across the Universe, one of my favorite movies. This song is exactly how I felt about Frank when we first met almost eight years ago.

4. Like it or Not--Madonna
Yes. I do actually listen to a few chick songs. This is my favorite Madonna tune, not for the sound, but what it says. It should be the anthem for all strong women. "This is who I am, you can like it or not. You can love me or leave me cuz I'm never gonna stop."

5. Into the Mystic by Van Morrison
I have no idea why but whenever I hear this song I think of Frank and it transports me to a time when we first fell in love.

6. Follow you Home--Nickelback
Probably my best concert going memory was when my hubby and I went to see Nickelback a few years ago. I sidled up close to him, chest to back, with my thumb in his front pocket while I growled this song in his ear. Let's just say the 'after show party' at home was H O T ...

7. Hate Me Today by Blue October
My brother didn't have an easy go at life and was taken from us way too soon. By listening to this song I'm reminded of him and I don't feel as if he's so far away.

8. Over and Under--Egypt Central
Why are these guys not more popular?? I love this song for the lyrics and the almost play on words aspect: I'm over me being under you, I'm breaking free, I'm breaking through. I've overcome all that's under me.

9. Strawberry Fields Forever by Jim Sturgess
Another song from Across the Universe. There's no reason why I love this one other than it's a great song!

10. Hot Girls--INXS
This is a quirky, kinky kind of tune. I watched the last couple episodes of the Rock Star series where they picked the next lead for INXS, and then downloaded the songs when the album came out. The band was not the same, but this song just grabbed me with it's repetitious nature, and the sexy breathy way he sings. Go. Listen. Love it. Or...think I'm weird. It's okay, I can handle it. :)

11. Down in Mexico by the Coasters
This one is sexy and fun and I just love it.

12. Gonna Get Close to You--Queensryche
OMG sexy, steamy, stalker song and my favorite of all the Ryche tunes. This is my quintessential vampire song. I LOVE it. Used to be obsessed with it, played it all the time. Yes--I have a dark side. I like it. I play there occasionally. :)

13. Looks Like We Made It by Shania Twain
When Frank and I met we had everything against us. All we had in our favor was love, respect and a friendship that was unbreakable. Some might say that's all anyone needs, but sadly, life doesn't always work that way. Thankfully for us it did and nearly eight years later we've come through a lot to get to this point we're at now. All the trials of life has strengthened us and reinforced our bond. So, yes, I listen to this song just about every day and I smile, knowing we did make it no matter what life threw at us.

Bonus..
.
14. This is a joint song: The Undertaker--Puscifer

Ann: OMG this is just the BEST song (for me) to write the atmospheric, vamp/were stuff to. Plus, again, the lyric: Thank you for making me feel like I am guilty... Enough said.

Renee: When I was still actively writing and needed to get into the head of one of my vampires I'd listen to this song and sink right into their dark and seductive world.

That was fun--I like the contrasts, and I even know a few of the songs, which is unusual for music lists.

A Puscifer fan! I love all things Maynard James Keenan :).

I'm with you on Nickleback and Blue October too, but MJK has had my heart since Mer de Noms by A Pefect Circle and I had to go back and collect all the Tool cds too which only furthered it all.

But nuff about me. *Grin*. Thanks for coming by.

Happy TT

The Iz version of Over the Rainbow and Into the Mystic are two of my all-time favorite songs. I was transported for a moment while reading your post.

great list. I love all of the songs from Across the Universe! And number seven is very close to my heart as well. Thanks for sharing! I am not craving to watch Across the Universe, for the 124683rd time, and listen to Blue October.

What a fun way to do it. Thanks for stopping by to see my song themed TT too. It never ceases to amaze me how much variety is available to listen to these days and yet I always seem to hear the same crap on the radio. =)

Happy TT!

I write vampires, werewolves, and werecats, too. I didn't know there was good music for it. I'll have to check it out.
